An unusual early Scottish mantel clock
A late 18th/early 19th-century Scottish mantel clock. The octagonal mahogany case with whitewood stringing has oval fretwork panels to each side and a solid door to the rear. The case, which we have lightly waxed has a beautiful patina.
There is a cream eight-inch circular dial marked with Roman numerals and an indistinct maker’s mark. Within the case is an 8-day double fusee movement which strikes the hours on a single bell that is keeping excellent time.
A clock with character.
